Business Idea
Mobile Mechanic

This is a great business idea for someone who has some mechanic skills, and would love to own their own business, but does not have the money or the inclination to invest in their own shop.

As a mobile mechanic you can think of yourself as the white knight coming to the rescue of damsels in distress. You really can be the hero of the day, coming to the aid of those most in need of assistance to get themselves back on the road when a minor problem has caused their car to quit on them.

For example, meet Mac, the Mobile Mechanic. The message on his voice mail says it all - ”Don’t panic, you’ve reached a mechanic.”

Many people out there approach even the simplest of vehicle repairs with at least mild fear and trepidation.

And when their vehicles break down, doesn’t it usually happen at the most inconvenient times?

They were probably already late to somewhere very important when the tire went flat or the battery died.

If they are members, they could call Triple A and then wait three hours for a tow truck. Or, they could call their local mobile mechanic. This is where you drive in to save the day.

Become a mobile mechanic and these people will be calling you, willing to pay for your help.

This is a great way to make money for a person who wants to run a business from home, and has basic car repair knowledge.

Because you go to where the car is, you will only be called on to do small repairs.

So this is one of those business ideas that doesn’t require a great deal of investment to start, especially if you already have the basic arsenal of car repair tools you need.

And you will only need to carry a minimal supply of tools with you. In addition, you don’t need to stock pile supplies. You purchase only whatever is required for the job at hand.

Of course you will need a dependable vehicle, but since you are already a mechanic this should be no problem for you.

For those of you who don’t want to wait for a stranded motorist to call, you can still find plenty of customers.

For example, busy stay-at-home moms practically live in their cars, taxiing kids to soccer and piano lessons. Leaving the car at a garage all day just for a regularly scheduled oil change is highly inconvenient.

Wouldn’t they love to have someone come to their home to perform this and other routine services?

Advertise your unique car maintenance service in church bulletins, preschool newsletters, and other family oriented communications.

As always, the yellow pages and classified ads are good sources for clients, as well.

Print up business cards and give them to everyone you know. Ask them to spread the news about your auto-repair shop on wheels.

Another benefit of doing business as a mobile mechanic is the manner of payment. Your customers will pay you on the spot for your services and reimburse you for supplies.

The hassle of sending out bills, and trying to collect payment for work done weeks ago is eliminated.

Mac, the mobile mechanic, says his clients are always happy to see him. His services help get them back on the road to where they want to be.

For his maintenance customers, he creates a moment of calm in a hectic schedule.

What other activity allows you to make money, while being heroic and playing with automobiles at the same time? What a great combination!
