Business Idea
Become A Sports Videographer

Competitions are a business idea opportunity just waiting to be taken advantage of.

There is competition in practically all walks and stages of life. School, sports, business, and politics all call for competition.

Therefore, there are instances, especially in sports, that it proves beneficial to study the weaknesses of the opponents.

So how can you make money doing this?

By video taping the performances of the opposing teams, you can provide video to be studied for the team's weak points.

If you have a hobby in the field of videography, you can always make money videoing sporting events to be sold to the opponent.

You will have to scout out teams (probably in a sport you love) and sell your services to them.

Let them know how good you are at videotaping exactly what they will want to see. Charge by the hour and add travel time. Go to the coaches, and let them know what you can show them.

All teams are eager to find out the weak points of their competitors; so if you have a video camera and have an interest in sports, this is indeed one of those great ideas for a small business that will generate an income for you.

As a sports videographer you can show off your expertise in videography and in the sport or sports you love.

In fact, taking a practice run of a trial match for a coach's scrutiny would not be a bad idea! They then get to know your expertise, and may hire you for this.

It would be a great way to get the ball rolling.

Another way to get started and make money with this business idea is to sell your video of a certain competition to a number of competing teams.

My husband’s nephew is a high school basketball coach and numerous times he has called and asked if my husband would video tape a local basketball game in our town and send him the tape so he could study the opposing team’s weaknesses.

Now my husband could have also sold a copy of the tapes to any other team coaches in the league too that might be interested in scouting the competition.

There would be no conflict of interest in doing this, as you would be freelancing and working for a number of coaches at the same time - an excellent way to multiply your income for working the same amount of hours!

But if you decide to work for one team you will probably be paid by the hour, with your traveling expenses to be paid by the sports team.

It is always better to approach the coach of the team, who will definitely put in a good word for you. The benefit of this job is that once you are chosen to become the videographer, you get to work while watching your favorite sport!

You can also freelance, check out this freelance bio of a sports videographer on iFreelance to get some ideas.

If you start out small, just doing work for local coaches in your area you can get a feel for how well this career fits for you.

And then you can also decide if you want to try and get hired by one big school or institution to do all their sports videography or stick to freelancing.

If you decide to freelance, you should have brochures printed to be distributed in colleges, institutions, or organizations having competitive sports amongst themselves.

Smaller schools probably do not have the budget for a dedicated videographer so you would have a better chance of getting some work from them.

Another way to expand this business idea is to offer your services to athletes who are hoping to be recruited.

You can shoot clips of the athlete in action in various games and put together a tape that the athlete can send to recruiting professionals, coaches, talent managers, etc.

And you can certainly expand this beyond just sports. Think of dancers, actors, etc., who are hoping to be accepted into high quality schools and need a good audition tape.

There is some investment involved in this business; you need to have a good video camera to film the games. Be sure to invest in high quality video tapes too.

And of course you need to shoot some great film.

Check out these sports videography tips from a TV Sportscaster to give you some pointers.

So if you like sports and have some good video taping skills, this might be just the business idea for you.

It would certainly be a way to develop at least an extra part time income stream initially, and then you can grow the business and income from there.
