Become a Cooking Coach

Interested in Becoming a Cooking Coach?

The last thing some folks want to admit to is that they can’t cook. They might be very good at their jobs, and have nice homes, but the only cooking odors in their homes, come from open restaurant takeout boxes. Cooking CoachWho knows exactly how the epidemic of cooking illiteracy began. Perhaps, it was a generation of latch key kids raised on burgers, fries, and snack cakes, but one thing is sure. They cannot follow a recipe. They do not understand their stoves. They can’t menu plan and they don’t understand how to bake at all. These poor folks need help, especially in an economy where eating out constantly is seen as a waste. There’s also the fact that eating-in, would be healthier for them as well. Cooking shows are on the rise demonstrating the new interest in being a good cook and knowing your way around a kitchen. It’s in to be a chef. Good cooks are rare and they have something to share with the many that could use a little help in the kitchen. Becoming a cooking coach can help entire families at a time. If you love to cook and have some solid basis for claiming excellence in the kitchen, like having worked in a restaurant or taking courses yourself, then this can be a great business. Especially, since the concept is new and there’s not a competitive market to contend with as of yet. This is also a business with a lot of potential to grow as students will no doubt always be interested in learning new menu options.

Becoming a kitchen coach would mean coming into someone else’s home, so you might want to see about being bonded. You will also need to have your exact services spelled out for your customers. As a coach you will be teaching students how to cook in their own home using their utensils and supplies, so they can learn how to prepare meals easily. There will be those mini-disasters to start with as you want them to learn from doing rather than just watching you. Seeing your pupils flustered and frustrated in a hot kitchen means you will not be seeing them at their best moments. A kitchen coach will probably also have to talk students out of grandiose plans until they have mastered the basics. As good as you are at cooking you also need lots of patience and people skills.

Cooking up a promotion plan for this business will be a breeze, since most of it will be word of mouth, at first. While students will no doubt come looking for you, there are other ways to get your new venture in the public eye. Volunteering to do a cooking seminary at a local community center will introduce you to many new hopeful future chefs. You might also have some flyers made and leave them at grocery stores, laundry mats, and apartment buildings, and while it may seem a little cruel around fast food places or any place hungry people who can’t toast a decent slice of bread are found. This new business can mean a very positive change in your life and in the lives of everyone you coach.
