I am writing this personal message to anyone thinking of starting your own business in the midst of the economic chaos gripping the world right now.
But this message is timely no matter what the current economic conditions may be whenever you happen to come across this article.
And if you are thinking of starting your own business, there is a very strong message here that will give you a new perspective on why I am one of those people who believe in starting my own business, and why you should be starting your own business too.
This heart of this message actually comes from a Special Edition of an email newsletter I receive from respected eBay expert Lisa Suttora.
Lisa’s newsletter reaches over 37,000 people so it’s heartening to know that such a strongly positive message is reaching such a large group of people.
I felt so strongly myself about this message, and it aligns with all I believe about empowering yourself by creating your own sources of income, that I had to reprint it here for you.
This message will help you understand why you need to create your own personal economy by starting your own business, instead of living in fear of what you hear and even experience about the economy from the media, friends, family and even what’s happening in your small part of the world.
Here goes….
SPECIAL EDITION: January 30, 2009A Personal Message from Lisa: How to Strengthen Your Personal Economy in 2009.
Today I have a very personal message for you that can affect the outcome of your financial state this year.
Whether you have a job and a part-time business, or are a full-time business owner, please read on...
I just returned from an intense 3 day meeting with my mentors and the mastermind group I'm a part of.
What really struck me about those 72 hours is not once did we dwell on the economic problems splashed all over the front page of the paper.
We spent the entire time focusing on solutions, creative thinking and opportunities for our online businesses.
However, upon emerging from my meetings, I was bombarded by one newspaper headline after the other about "THE Economy" - article after article telling people to wait it out, hope for the best, hang on for dear life until "someone" ― the government, the bailout plan, etc. "turns things around". And it made me mad.
Why?
Because I'm tired of watching the media attempt to force feed us a one-size-fits all message about "THE Economy".
Yes, overall economic conditions do impact our lives. Sometimes dramatically.
But it's NOT a one size fits all problem. Nor is there a one size fits all solution.
(Hear me out on this ― you'll be glad you did...)
What's really important for you (and the 37,000+ other readers of this newsletter) to start thinking about is this―How is YOUR Personal Economy?
What's happening with your life, your finances, your business?
Each of us has a different Personal Economy.
Your Economy is not the same as your brother's, it's not the same as your neighbor's and it's the same as your competitor's.
And it's time you stopped thinking that it is.
Your personal economy is dependent on what YOU make of it.
If you buy into the message that since THE economy is bad, YOUR Personal Economy is destined to be bad too - you are doing yourself a tremendous disservice.
You can't control what is happening with THE Economy. But you CAN control what's happening with YOUR Personal Economy.
How?
No matter what you do. No matter how old you are, no matter how young you are, no matter whether or your job is good or bad. No matter whether it's "secure" or tenuous.
You need to develop your OWN stream of independent income.
• If you have a job, that means creating a part-time stream of income that you can count on every month.
• If you already run an online business, it means improving your business ― expanding from one marketplace to two. From one product line into several.
Yes, you can improve your Personal Economy. But only YOU can do it.
You can't wait for "THE Economy" to change.
You have to change what you do in THIS economy (or whatever economy we're having at the time).
Stop waiting for the "golden turnaround".
And make your own turnaround.
You're going to be hearing a lot more about this from me.
Why?
Because it's hard to see people struggle ― when they don't have to.
And to see the media scare people into action paralysis.
Now there was more to Lisa’s message, but that was for her email newsletter subscribers. She in fact wanted to know what information people needed to know to help their business grow in 2009.
And I know she will take those questions and come up with some great solutions and ideas for her readers.
Now if selling on eBay interests you, then you will want to hear more from Lisa, and you can get information on how to get her free newsletter in my
How To Sell On eBay
article.
But eBay is just one of thousands of possible ways of starting your own business, and making a commitment to yourself to create your own personal economy this year.
And on this website I am committed to continue to provide new creative business ideas, resources and information to help you do just that.
So turn off the TV, take a break from the newspapers, and put your focus on learning how to build an online or offline business.
If you understand at all how your focus and thoughts help to create your reality, you will see that putting your attention on what the media is feeding us, and what the mass consciousness of society continues to fret about, is simply going to continue to create more of the same.
But you can make a choice to put your focus and thoughts on positive action instead, and begin creating your own personal economy by starting your own business.
Trust me, you will feel empowered beyond belief when you start to take some action in this direction, and while it will take hard work, motivation and focus, it’s the right place to put your attention and energy, instead of the fear based thinking that most of society is buying into.
I hope you’ll take the message in this article to heart, and find some hope that no matter what your personal economy is right now, you and you alone are responsible and capable of changing it to something better.
I wish you all the best in your small business endeavors,
